Triangulations focuses on theater, drama, dance, and performance in all its interdisciplinary and historical variety, and in all its professional and community manifestations. We define the term "performance" generously, ranging from dramatic literature staged in theater buildings to everyday rituals that constitute performance (such as commitment ceremonies or memorial services) to the performative dimensions of sex, sexuality, gender, race, and other identity categories. At the same time, we remain committed to scholarship about work that is specifically theatrical in reception and intent, from work at various lesbian and gay theaters and performance spaces, to activist groups around the country who use theatrical spectacle to political effect.
We seek book projects written by and for artists, scholars, and activists that will spark conversations around performance works and the critical ideas that they produce. Triangulations encourages manuscripts that demonstrate the creative and intellectual collaborations possible among queer and trans scholars, critics, activists, playwrights, choreographers, dancers, and performers. The series also invites cross-gender, cross-race, cross-ethnicity, and inter-identity conversations. The series actively seeks projects that rigorously traverse boundaries of genders, races, ethnicities, identities, and geopolitical borders. Our intent is to be inclusive across disciplines, methodologies, practices, and global communities.
