Latin Workshop Experimental Materials: Book Two offers a comprehensive collection of Latin prose and poetry gathered from twenty centuries. This volume was developed from the cooperative efforts of a group of Latin teachers during the Latin Workshop at the University of Michigan Summer Session under a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York City. The book is designed to provide reading material for classes, serving as a substitute for Caesar's writings in other schools and colleges. The selections are arranged according to subject matter rather than difficulty, allowing teachers to choose portions suited to their students' interests and abilities. The easiest selections include medieval novellae, Eutropius, the Bible, Carmina Burana, medieval hymns, Ekkehart, Einhard, and Erasmus, while more challenging material, suitable for mature students, includes passages from Livy, Tacitus, Lucretius, and Seneca. Notes and vocabulary have been kept minimal to encourage students to derive meaning from the context. The book includes a variety of historical, poetic, biblical, and miscellaneous texts, aiming to enrich Latin learning by covering a broad range of authors and genres.
