Are you interested in publishing your scholarship with University of Michigan Press in an Open Access format? In 2021, the University of Michigan Press developed a business model we call "Fund to Mission." This model aims to reduce dependence on Book Publishing Charges (BPCs) for OA book publishing by spreading the costs of producing books across a wide range of institutions and libraries. As a result of this initiative, we never require authors to pay BPCs to publish open access. When authors have access to funding through their parent institutions or other organizations, however, we do ask them to apply for it; individual author subventions help spread the cost of producing books across stakeholders and support the entirety of our OA publishing program. In addition to an OA digital edition, we also publish high-quality print editions (hardcover and paperback) of nearly every one of our titles, which are made available for purchase worldwide.
