John L. Tishman, author of Building Tall, dies at 90

John L. Tishman, author of Building Tall and University of Michigan graduate, passed away on Saturday, February 6 in his New York home at the age of 90. Tishman, who inherited the Tishman Realty and Construction Company from his grandfather, is known for transforming the skylines of Detroit, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. Before taking over his grandfather’s company, Tishman studied electrical engineering at U of M and served in the U. S. Navy. His projects include the original “twin towers” of the World Trade Center in New York, the Hancock Tower in Chicago, the Renaissance Center in Detroit, the EPCOT Center at Disney World, and New York’s Madison Square Garden. Tishman is credited with creating the profession of Construction Management.
