'Is William Martinez Not Our Brother?' Chosen for 2012 University of Michigan Press Book Award

Buzz Alexander's Is William Martinez Not Our Brother?: Twenty Years of the Prison Creative Arts Project has been awarded the University of Michigan Press Book Award, honoring the best work published by the University Press in the prior two calendar years and written by a member, or members, of the University of Michigan faculty. Alexander's book, part of the New Public Scholarship series, highlights the work of the University of Michigan's Prison Creative Arts Project, which works with incarcerated youth and adults to overcome prison culture through the creation of original artwork. Alexander founded the program in 1990 to give voice to a population of young people and adults who are in prison, have previously been incarcerated, or whose lives are affected by a society that imprisons more of its people than any other nation on Earth.

Congratulations to Professor Alexander for his work on Is William Martinez Not Our Brother? and for the continued success of the Prison Creative Arts Project.
